A brief history of Taekwondo
Taedwondo, a Korean martial art, grew out of influences from many martial arts styles including Japanese Karate. Many Korean soldiers were trained in traditional Japanese Karate during WWII and brought the style home after the war. For some time, after WWII there was no unified martial arts style, but by 1957, Taekwondo was a unified style with a unified name. Now there are several governing bodies that oversee teaching standards within the art. Golden Tiger Taekwondo holds to the World Taekwondo Federation standards.
